Construction begins on on-campus Baseball/Softball Complex

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. -- We are very excited to announce that Phase One of the construction of our on-campus baseball/softball complex is underway.

This first phase involves the layout and excavation of the baseball field on the site of the school's fomer practice field.

"This is a major step for us," Fayette Athletic Director Vince Capozzi said. "We now can see tangible proof that his project is happening. It's very exciting."

Capozzi noted that it was "way too early" to speculate if the field would be ready for intercollegiate competition next spring.

The next phase will involve installation of the infield surface and turf management. The final phase will be installation of the fencing and bench areas  -- projected for late fall.

The first phase of construction on the softball field could begin in the fall, Capozzi explained. "That field is going to be special, too."

Getting the complex on campus has been the goal of a variety of administrators and coaches over the past seven years.

"To finally see it coming together is very exciting," Capozzi added.

Updates on the construction of both fields will be forthcoming.
