Stephen Oberly was named Penn State Fayette Director of Athletics in October of 2021. He served as Interim Director of Athletics in Spring 2015 and Summer 2021. He began his term with Penn State Fayette in October 2013 as an Athletics Administrative Support Assistant and adjunct Kinesiology Instructor. Beginning Summer 2014, Oberly was hired and served a 7-year faculty term as Lecturer of Kinesiology and Assistant Athletic Director where he advised, mentored, and instructed students in a variety of health, fitness, and exercise disciplines, while assisting in the direction and programming of 11 intercollegiate sports programs.

He was responsible for overseeing campus fitness and recreational services, assisted with the direction and development of student athlete academic support programs (i.e. Student Athletes Graduate and Excel - SAGE), and dedicated his time in advocating on behalf of student affairs within the Fayette Faculty Senate - where he was elected by his peers to serve as Chairperson in 2020-21. Oberly developed and launched the Athletic Department Internship programs, organized the launching of the Fayette Athletics Network (the FAN), and continues to serve on PSUAC and USCAA sport committees. Oberly stays active in his community outreach, building business partnerships through Fayette Athletics Club membership program, and within the Penn State Fayette County Advisory Board.

Prior to Penn State Fayette, Oberly worked at California University of Pa as the Graduate Assistant of Sport Clubs, Manager of the Herron Hall Rock Wall Climbing activities, and Director of Game-day operations for the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey club programs.

A native to Fayette County, Oberly graduated from Uniontown High School in 2007. He obtained both his bachelor degree in History (May 2012) and master’s degree in Sport Management (August 2013) at California University of Pa. Oberly is also a PhD doctoral candidate in Health and Human Performance with Concordia University-Chicago where he has attended since 2017.

In his spare time, he enjoys fitness and exercise training, hiking, playing ice hockey, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.
