Fayette Grabs a Win Under the Lights

Hopwood- The Penn State Fayette men's baseball team had a night of highs and lows. In the first contest, the Roaring Lions were riddled with errors, falling behind 2-0 in the 3rd inning.  It did not get much better for the Roaring Lions, allowing 6 more runs in the 4th inning.

Grant Wortman hit a double to lead Fayette in hitting. Wortman also played some solid defense managing to cleanly hold onto some wild throws. Wortman finished the game snatching up 8 outs at first. After Matt Nolan took the mound, the outfield really rallied behind him, grabbing 8 outs in the last 3.5 innings. Fayette looked to seek revenge in the second game after losing 10-0 to Penn State Beaver.

In the second game, we saw a completely different Penn State Fayette baseball team. Fayette rallied behind pitcher Kody Thomas who continued his stellar play on the mound, increasing his win streak to 4 games, which is first in the PSUAC. Thomas would go on to pitch all 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits and 1 run. Thomas retired 6 of 9 Beaver batters, tallying 8 strikeouts on the night.  With his 8 strikeouts he increased his league lead in strikeouts to 30 on the season. Fayette played an all-around solid defensive game, averaging only 4 batters an inning. Thomas impressive on both sides of the mound, scored 1 of the 2 runs, with an RBI off of his double. Jon Krall went 2-3 with an RBI and stolen base. Grant Wortman finished 2-2 in the second game, finishing the double-header going 3-5. With some outstanding pitching and defensive play, the Fayette men's baseball team was able to upset Penn State Beaver 2-1, splitting the double-header.

The Fayette men's baseball will be back in action Saturday, April 16th against Penn State Mont Alto at 2:00pm and 4:00pm at home.
