Baseball stays hot and wins fifth straight

Lemont Furnace, PA - The red-hot Penn State Fayette baseball team won its season-best fifth game in a row Tuesday with a 7-2 win over Garrett College.

It didn't take long for Fayette (7-11) to get on the board as it took a 1-0 lead in the first.

TJ Lux (West Newton, PA/Yough HS) led off the inning with a triple and scored two batters later on an RBI single by Garrett Stevenson (Hempfield, PA/Hempfield HS).

Garrett College took a 2-1 lead in the second, but Fayette countered with a pair of runs to take a 3-2 lead when Lux singled in Trevor Thomas (Meyersdale, PA/Meyersdale HS) and Jaryn Addis (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS).

After the Nittany Lions added a run in the third and another in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead, they put the game away with two runs in the seventh when a single by Matt Morgan (Eighty-Four, PA/Ringgold HS) scored Ross Mazer (Frostburg, MD/Salisbury-Elk Lick HS) and Austin Clark (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson Morgan).

Stevenson led the 11-hit attack with two singles and a double while Lux had a triple and a single and Mazer had a pair of singles.

Austin Benton (Lusby, MD/Patuxent HS) upped his record to 2-1 as he went the distance on the mound and struck out seven.

Fayette is back in action Saturday as it heads to Penn State DuBois for a PSUAC double header.
