Fayette baseball sweeps New Kensington, Bittner Recognized

Lemont Furnace, PA - Upon the conclusion of a special senior recognition ceremony for the programs only senior in Austin Bittner, the Penn State Fayette baseball team swept Penn State New Kensington Saturday to remain in third place in the PSUAC West.

In the opener, Fayette (10-15, 6-6) won, 7-2.

Matt Morgan (Eighty-Four, PA/Ringgold HS) broke open a scoreless game in the third with a three-run home run and Fayette never looked back.

TJ Lux (West Newton, PA/Yough HS) doubled in Jeffrey Doran (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) in the fourth to make the score 4-0 and then Noah Hanson (New Kensington, PA/Kiski HS) scored on a Brody Bagwell (East Millsboro, PA/Brownsville HS) groundout in the fifth to make the score 5-0.

New Kensington scored twice in the sixth, but Fayette got the run right back in the bottom of the inning when Lux scored on a sacrifice fly by Austin Clark (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson Morgan).

Four players finished with two hits as Morgan had a homer and double, Lux and Hanson both had a double and single and Jaryn Addis (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) had two singles.

Clark went the distance on the mound for Fayette to earn the complete game win as he struck out eight batters and only walked one.

It took eight innings in the nightcap, but Fayette was able to down New Kensington (3-15, 2-10), 4-3.

Both teams came out fast and New Kensington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Fayette countered with a pair of runs during its first at-bat.

Fayette extended its lead to 3-1 in the third as Clark singled in Ross Mazer (Frostburg, MD/Salisbury-Elk Lick HS).

New Kensington scored twice in the fifth to tie the game, and it took until the bottom of the eighth for Fayette to earn the walk-off win.

Addis walked to lead off the inning and advanced on an error and scored on another error for the win.

Trevor Stewart (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) went the distance on the mound to pick up the win.

Clark, Stewart and Ross Mazer (Frostburg, MD/Salisbury-Elk Lick HS) all recorded a pair of hits with Mazer having the lone double of the game for Fayette.
