Hanson "grand" again as BB wins

Lemont Furnace, PA - Offense was a plenty Wednesday in Penn State Fayette's 11-7 baseball win over Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC).

The teams combined for 33 hits with none being bigger than a third-inning grand slam off of the bat of Noah Hanson (New Kensington, PA/Kiski HS).

The grand slam was Hanson's second in five days and it helped blow the game open.

After Hanson gave the Nittnay Lions (11-15) a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single, they pulled away in the third.

Ross Mazer (Frostburg, MD/Salisbury-Elk Lick HS) and Austin Clark (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson Morgan) had consecutive RBI singles and Matt Morgan (Eighty-Four, PA/Ringgold HS) followed with an RBI double.

After Trevor Stewart (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) walked to load the bases, Hanson put the game out of reach with his grand slam and then two batters later, Jaryn Addis (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) homered to give Fayette a 9-0 lead.

In the third, Fayette scored eight runs on nine hits as it sent 12 batters to the plate.

CCAC scored a pair of runs in the fourth, but Fayette got one right back on a Hanson ground out.

Down 10-2 after four, CCAC scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to make the score 10-6.

Clark homered in the eighth to make the score 11-6 before CCAC would tack on one more run in the ninth.

The Nittany Lions finished with 15 hits and CCAC tallied 18.

Hanson finished with the grand slam, a single and six RBI while Clark had four hits, including the home run as well as a double.

TJ Lux (West Newton, PA/Yough HS), Garrett Stevenson (Hempfield, PA/Hempfield HS) and Addis all added two hits apiece with Addis having his third inning home run.

Alan Vansickle (Farmington, PA/Uniontown HS) recorded the win on the mound while Stevenson finished the game off for the save.

Fayette returns to PSUAC play Friday knowing that it can still make the conference post-season tournament.
