Baseball drops 11-inning game at Mont Alto

Mont Alto, PA - The Penn State Fayette baseball team dropped an 11-inning PSUAC game at Penn State Mont Alto Friday, and the loss doesn't help Fayette's post-season chances.

Second place Mont Alto (22-15, 10-2) pounded out 19 hits but had five errors which contributed to the length of the game.

Fayette (11-15, 6-6) took the lead in the third when it scored two unearned runs thanks to a pair of errors by Mont Alto.

The hosts trimmed its deficit in half in the bottom of the inning, but Fayette scored twice in the sixth to seemingly take control of the game.

With two outs, Jeffrey Doran (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin HS) grounded to first base but the ball was misplayed and it allowed Ross Mazer (Frostburg, MD/Salisbury-Elk Lick HS) to score.

Doran then scored an unearned run on a passed ball to make the score 4-1.

Mont Alto scored a run in the seventh to make the score 4-2, but Fayette was able to get the run back in the eighth.

Jaryn Addis (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) doubled in Trevor Stewart (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) to make the score 5-2, but Mont Alto scored three runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

With one out in the ninth, Austin Clark (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson Morgan) singled in Garrett Stevenson (Hempfield, PA/Hempfield HS) to give Fayette a 6-5 lead, but Mont Alto tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings.

Neither team scored in the 10th and Mont Alto's Chayse Fisher, who finished with four hits, had a walk-off single to win the game in the 11th.

Mazer, Clark and Matt Morgan (Eighty-Four, PA/Ringgold HS) each had two hits for Fayette.

The two teams play a double header Saturday.
