Fayette Golf finishes strong; Brothers, Fetzner honored

Lemont Furnace, PA – After a great regular season, the Penn State Fayette golf team participated in the 2017 PSUAC/USCAA Championships at University Park in State College, PA. The championships began on Monday, October 9th and ended on Tuesday, October 10th. A total of 19 teams competed at the USCAA/PSUAC Championships.

SUNY Delhi came out on top with the victory and a two-day total team score of 604. Penn State Fayette finished in 13th place with a two day total team score of 662. In regards to the PSUAC, the Roaring Lions finished above Penn State Wilkes Barre, Penn State Brandywine and Penn State Schuylkill. Penn State Lehigh Valley and Penn State DuBois tied for 7th place. Penn State Mont Alto finished 10th and Penn State Hazleton finished in 12th place with a score of 660.

Charlie Fetzner tied for 8th place overall with a two day total of 152 (78, 74) and a +8 overall. Jarrod Sutton tied for 42nd by shooting a total of 159 (81, 78) and a +15 overall. Other Roaring Lions golfers that competed were Gage Clark (83, 82), Noah House (88, 83), Austin Clark (86, 88), and Jake DeBerry (102, 93). Also, Jarrod Sutton (81, 78) and Haley Brothers (106, 95), competed as individuals in the men's and women's divisions. The Fayette team finished in 5th place in the PSUAC standings and 13th place in the USCAA standings out of a total of 25 participating schools from different areas of the country.

Haley Brothers was selected to the 2017 USCAA Golf National All-Academic Team by achieving a 3.5 or greater GPA throughout the year. Haley received this honor last year. Charlie Fetzner's two day total (152) helped him achieve a 3rd place finish in the PSUAC conference and a tie for 8th place in the USCAA National tournament. He was selected to the 2017 USCAA Golf All-American 2nd Team Student-Athlete. The assistant coaches, Al Crawford and Rita Gumbert, along with head coach, Dave Gumbert, are proud of all the accomplishments achieved throughout the golf season by all team members including Eric Mcthane, Ryan Gesso, Eric Silbaugh and Jake Wallace. Congratulation to the 2017 Penn State Fayette golf team on a great season!
