Golf sets program records at National Championships

The Penn State Fayette golf team concluded the most successful season in program history on Tuesday at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships.

The event also doubled as the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Championships as well.

Thanks to its impressive showing, Fayette finished 10th in the USCAA Championships and 3rd in the PSUAC Championships.

Both finishes set records for the highest final rankings in the respective championships.

"I am very proud of our team for finishing in the top ten of the USCAA and third in the PSUAC against some very good golfers," Fayette head coach Dave Gumbert said.

Noah House (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland HS) looked best for Fayette as he finished tied for 29th in the USCAA tournament after shooting a 78 while Louis Gonzales (Port Lavaca, TX/Calhoun HS) was one shot back to finished tied for 36th.

Jarred Provance (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) tied for 54th with his 82, Ryan Gesso (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) shot an 84 to finish tied for 79th and Ethan Greene (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) finished tied for 94th after shooting a 91.

St. Mary of the Woods won the USCAA championship after shooting a 292 while PS Lehigh Valley repeated as PSUAC champions and it is the fourth conference title in program history.

As far as PSUAC top-20 finishes, House came in tied for seventh, Gonzalez tied for 11th and Provance tied for 19th.

Gumbert reflected on the two seniors and looked to the future as well.

"Although we are losing (seniors) Ryan and Louis, I feel confident that (our returning golfers) are prepared to represent the Fayette Golf team," he said.

House, Provance, Greene, Pablo Gudiel (Washington, DC/Woodrow Wilson HS), Josh Sterbutzel (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS), Luke Long (West Newton, PA/ Belle Vernon Area HS) and Kalianna Rager (Alverton, PA/Southmoreland HS) all have eligibility remaining.
