Golf plays in LV Ryder Cup

Lehigh Valley, PA - The Penn State Fayette golf team took part in the Penn State Lehigh Valley Invitational Ryder Cup event Tuesday and was a part of the winning team, which was known as Team USA.

For the event, which featured all Penn State branch campuses, Fayette was joined on Team USA by Brandywine and Hazleton.  Team Europe consisted of the hosts, Mont Alto, Scranton and York.

Early on, Team USA held a slim 4-3 lead after six holes in the alternate shot format.  The unique competition provided an early test of new partnerships and confidence.  While the teams had perfect weather, challenging pin positions made the unique format a challenging, yet fun, competition.

After trailing early, Team Europe swiftly reversed the 4-3 deficit to a 6.5-7.5 score over the next six holes.  Trust and having a better understanding of the new alliances began to stand out.  Team USA ended up winning the Cup, 15-13, by taking an impressive 8.5 of the 12 remaining points in the head-to-head singles matches over the final six holes.

For the event, Fayette had a pair of duos take part as Jarred Provance (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) teamed up with Noah House (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland HS) while Bailey Stapleton (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) and Pablo Gudiel (Washington, DC/Woodrow Wilson HS) paired up.

Fayette heads to Penn State's Blue Course May 9-11 for the concurrent United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) championships and the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships.
