Williams honored; Fayette fought until the end

    LEMONT FURNACE— While Point Park's men defeated Penn State Fayette 90-84 on Jan. 7, there was still cause for celebration as Fayette senior standout Luke Williams was honored prior to the game for reaching the coveted 1,000 point plateau.

    Then, fellow Roaring Lion Brandon Cunningham stole a little bit of the show by scoring a game high 37 points. But he and London Hoxie (15 points) were Fayette's only double figure scorer in the game against the area Division II foe. C.J. Gaddis was right behind with nine points for Fayette.

    Point Park (10-6, 2-3) led 41-34 at halftime, although Fayette held a 50-49 second half edge to stay in the fame up to the final buzzer.

    The Pioneers had four players in double figures, led by Kelvin Goodwin with 20 points, Jerah'me Williams with 16 points, T.J. Lanier with 13 point and Sa'iid Allen with 12 points off the bench. Two other Pioneer were on the edge of double digits with nine points apiece.

    Point Park's biggest lead was 16 points with 9;45 left in the second half. Fayette briefly led by two points early in the game but never stopped battling.

    Fayette (4-9, 3-2) actually had a 30-29 edge in field goals, but Point Park had a huge advantage in free throws, sinking 26 of 49 attempts to Fayette's 9 of 16 at the charity stripe.

    The Roaring Lions also held their own on the boards, trailing point Park just 35 to 31 in overall rebounds, with Williams pulling down a team high 10 rebounds on the defensive end.

    The game was low in turnovers as PP had seven turnovers compared to the Roaring Lions' eight turnovers.
