Clarion edges men's basketball

Clarion, Pa - The Penn State Men's basketball team concluded a two-day road venture to take on Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams as it fell at Clarion on Sunday, December 30, 89-67.

Fayette led the entire opening 10 minutes and when Trevor Laskody (Morgantown, WV/Trinity Christian HS) hit a jumper with 10:53 to play in the half, the team led 20-16.

However, over their next eight possessions, the Nittany Lions missed four shots and had four turnovers and by the time London Hoxie (Menifee, CA/Paloma Valley HS) hit a three-pointer with 6:06 to play in the half to end the four-minute and 47-second scoring drought, they still trailed 24-23.

Over the last six minutes of the half, Fayette was outscored 17-5 and trailed 41-28 heading into the second half.

The Nittany Lions would get no closer than eight points in the second half.

Fayette shot 39.7% (25-63) for the game while Clarion shot 57.1% (36-63).

Hoxie led Fayette with 26 points, Marvin Sidon (Lahaina, HI/Lahainaluna HS) added 17 and three steals and Salim Wyche (Bel Air, MD/East Stroudsburg HS) had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Elijah Cottrill led Clarion with 26 points, Khari Williams added 21 and Jonathan Williams came off of the bench to score 20.

Fayette returns to action when it hosts Penn State New Kensington on Monday, January 7 in a PSUAC game. Tipoff is 8:00 p.m.
