MBB downs PS-New Ken, ends losing streak

Lemont Furnace, Pa - The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team ended a four-game losing streak in a big way Monday night as it defeated Penn State New Kensington in a PSUAC game, 115-85.

Marvin Sidon (Lahaina, HI/Lahainaluna HS) led five Fayette (3-9, 3-3) players with 26 points while London Hoxie (Menifee, CA/Paloma HS) and Tavian Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) each added 20 and both Dominic Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS) and Trevor Laskody (Morgantown, WV/Trinity Christian HS) each scored 13.

Fayette jumped out to a 10-0 lead and led 52-41 at the half.

In the second half, Fayette went on several runs against New Kensington (6-5, 2-3) and outscored the guests 63-44 in the second half.

For the game, Fayette shot 60% (45-75) from the field and 45.9% (17-37) from three-point territory while New Kensington shot 46.4% (26-56) from the field and 21.7% (5-23) on three-pointers.

The one offensive advantage New Kensington had was at the free throw line where it made 28 out of 38 free throw attempts while Fayette only attempted 10 free throws, making eight.

Fayette held advantages in rebounds (38-21), assists (18-3), points off of turnovers (32-11), second chance points (15-7), points in the paint (48-42) and bench points (39-30).

Jamison Nee led New Kensington with 23 points while Thomas Gilmore added 21 and Jakob Richardson also hit double figures with 17.

Fayette returns to PSUAC action Wednesday, January 9 when it heads to Penn State Greater Allegheny (6-6, 3-4) for a PSUAC contest.
