MBB jumps out early; Hoxie recognized for 1000pt milestone

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team entered Wednesday 1.5 games behind Penn State Shenango for fourth place in the PSUAC West standings.

After picking up a home win over the visiting Shenango squad (6-9, 5-4), 82-66, Fayette (5-11, 5-5) is now a half-game back with a two-game road trip ahead this weekend.

Fayette jumped out to an 11-0 lead out of the gate and never looked back.

Up 27-18, London Hoxie (Menifee, CA/Paloma HS) drilled a three-pointer to give Fayette a 30-18 lead with 7:42 to go in the half, and the shot sparked a 21-4 run and Fayette led, 48-22, and halftime.

Shenango outscored Fayette 44-34 in the second half but the outcome was never in doubt and Fayette's biggest lead was 27 points, 60-33, with 15:55 to play when Marvin Sidon (Lahaina, HI/Lahainaluna HS) hit a three-pointer.

Fayette shot a blistering 60.8% (31-51) from the floor and 51.9% (14-27) from downtown while Shenango shot 46.9% (23-49) from the field but only 14.3% (2-14) from beyond the arc.

Trevor Laskody (Morgantown, WV/Trinity Christian HS) led four Fayette players in double figures with 21 points while Salim Wyche (Bel Air, MD/East Stroudsburg HS) added 19, and both Hoxie and Mozie finished with 13.

Sidon finished with a solid all-around floor game with five assists, five rebounds and five steals.

Gannon Murray led Shenango with 14 points.

Fayette heads out east this weekend as it plays at Penn State Brandywine on Friday and then at Penn State Lehigh Valley Saturday.
