MBB falls despite Mozie's standout performance

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team could not take advantage of seven three-pointers by Tavian Mozie Friday night as it dropped a PSUAC game at PSU Brandywine.

Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) finished with 23 points as did Marvin Sidon (Lahaina, HI/Lahainaluna HS).

In the first half, Fayette jumped out to a 10-2 lead when Salim Wyche (Bel Air, MD/East Stroudsburg HS) hit a jumper with 14:59 to play in the first half to give Fayette its biggest lead of the game.

During the run, Fayette's defense contributed to Brandywine missing nine of its first 10 shots.

The hosts chipped away and eventually took the lead, and with 2:23 to play in the half, they took a 32-22 lead when Dean Kane hit a three-pointer.

Brandywine led at the half, 37-29.

Fayette tried to cut into its deficit in the second half, but Brandywine opened up a 45-29 lead with 12:29 to play and maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half.

Fayette shot 39.7% (27-68) for the game and while it shots 30.6% (11-36) on three-pointers, Mozie made seven of 14 while the rest of the team only made four out of 22 attempts.

Wyche joined Mozie and Sidon in double figures for Fayette as he scored 10 points and had three steals while Sidon added six assists, Iman Young (Silver Springs, MD/West Potomac HS) had nine rebounds and Hoxie grabbed eight.

Jacob Hunt led Brandywine with 27 points.

Fayette (5-12 overall, 5-6 PSUAC) remains a half-game behind PSU Shenango (6-10, 5-5) in the PSUAC West standings while Brandywine (10-6, 6-4) had a solid grasp on fourth place in the Eastern division.

Fayette is at Penn State Lehigh Valley Saturday.
