MBB gets defensive in win at Beaver, 55-44

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team returned to play after a 10-day layoff and earned a 55-44 win at Penn State Beaver Tuesday night.

The win is the third straight for Fayette (4-5, 3-1) with all of them being Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) games.

"I thought our defense was awesome tonight and was easily the difference in the game," said head coach Marcus Thomas. "We struggled to get into a consistent rhythm offensively, but our defense picked us up."

While Fayette shot 41% (23 of 56) from the field, it limited Beaver (3-3, 2-2) to 31% (16 of 52).

"We were able to hold two of the top three scorers in the PSUAC to a combined three of 23 shooting, which was huge," Thomas said of John Foster (1 of 16) and Jeremy Redwine (two of seven). "Hopefully we can continue to improve and bring that intensity on the defensive end every time we step on the floor."

Trailing at the half of the defensive struggle by a single point, 24-23, Fayette limited Beaver to 20 second half points as it ratcheted up the defensive pressure.

Dom Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS) hit a trio of three-pointers during a 9-2 run to start the second half and then Tavian Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) added one of his own with 26:11 to go to give Fayette a 35-26 lead.

Beaver would get no closer than four points the rest of the game and Fayette's lead never dipped below seven points over the last 11:18.

Boring led all scorers with 21 points while Iman Young (Silver Springs, MD/West Potomac HS) recorded his fifth double-double of the season as he recorded 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Fayette heads on the road for a pair of games this weekend as it is at Penn State York Friday and Penn State Mont Alto Saturday.

The York contest begins at 8 PM while the Mont Alto tilt tips off at 3 PM.

"We have a huge weekend ahead of us so we will turn the page and get ready for Friday night," Thomas said.
