MBB falls to first-place Mont Alto

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team hosted Penn State Mont Alto Saturday afternoon and fell, 51-47.

Mont Alto (18-4 overall, 14-2 PSUAC) has clinched first place in the West division of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC), but it had its hands full with Fayette (8-13, 6-9).

"We played extremely hard," said first-year Fayette coach Marcus Thomas. "Mont Alto just made a few more plays down the stretch than we did.  Our focus level and energy were both there from the start through the finish.  The challenge is making sure we have that every time we step on the floor and not just sometimes.  We struggled to make shots today but if we consistently bring that energy and effort with us, we are capable of winning a lot of games."

Mont Alto held a 28-21 lead at the half, but Fayette was able to cut into its deficit and was able to eventually grab the lead.  Fayette led for the last time at 37-36 with 10:51 to go when Tavian Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) made a layup, but it would only score a single point until Iman Young (Silver Springs, MD/West Potomac HS) made a layup to trim the Mont Alto lead to 42-39 with 3:57 to go.

Fayette would get no closer the rest of the game.

Trevor Laskody (Morgantown, WV/Trinity Christian HS) led Fayette with 13 points while Mozie added 12.  Young finished with 11 rebounds.

Fayette shot 32% (18-56) from the field and only 15% (3-15) from beyond the arc.  Mont Alto, which shot 30% (20-67) for the game and only 16% (3-19) from three-point land, was led by John Teague's 13 points.

Each team had 15 turnovers, but Mont Alto held a 23-9 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Fayette hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny (14-7, 10-5), the second place team in the PSUAC West, in a Tuesday.  Tipoff is set for 8 PM.
