MBB eliminated from PSUAC tourney

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 95-69 loss at Penn State New Kensington in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) tournament first round game Saturday.

"We had a very bad day shooting the basketball," said head coach Andy Hedrick.  "We shot under 30 percent in the first half.  While we made a few runs in the second half, every time we got anything going, (New Ken) would hit a big shot."

Fayette (10-16), the fifth-seeded team in the West division, shot 27 percent (10-37) in the first half and finished the day at 36.1 percent (26-72) while New Ken (14-13) shot 53.3 percent (40-75) for the game.  Fayette never led and faced an uphill battle the entire night as it fell behind 7-0 and trailed 48-26 at the half.

New Ken, the fourth-seeded team in the West division, held the edge in every statistical category, including assists (21-5), second chance points (17-5), points in the paint (44-18) and bench points (23-13).

Tave Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) led Fayette with 19 points.  Mo Freeman (New Castle, DE/Salem Community College) recorded his third double-double of the season as he finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Will Hagwood (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby HS) and Matt Forbes (Verona, PA/Massabutten Military Academy) finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively.  Aubrey Feaster II led four New Ken players with a game-high 32 points.

New Ken heads to Penn State Mont Alto, the top seed in the West division, on Monday for a quarterfinal game.
