Stairs, Kromer receive All-American Honors

LEMONT FURNACE – Following one of the most successful softball seasons in its history, Fayette had several players receiving national and conference recognition.

 

Junior Jessica Stairs was named a USCAA Second Team All-American and First Team All-PSUAC after a breakout Year. Junior Moriah Kromer was named USCAA Honorable Mention All-American for the second time and also picked up her second USCAA All-Academic Team honor in addition to being named Second Team All-PSUAC.  Senior Jill Guthrie was named Second Team All-PSUAC.

 

Stairs had a breakout year, hitting .429 (30 hits) with seven homers and 26 RBI to go along with a .771 slugging percentage. Those numbers placed her fifth in the USCAA in home runs and eighth in slugging percentage.

 

In the PSUAC, Stairs' numbers placed her number one in home runs, fourth in slugging percentage and sixth in batting average earning her First Team All-PSUAC honors.

 

On the mound, she appeared in 10 games, going 4-3 with a 3.47 ERA (seventh in the PSUAC) and two shutouts (third best in the PSUAC). She struck out 44 and walked 22 in 46.1 innings, averaging 6.65 strikeouts per game (sixth in PSUAC).  

 

Kromer was named USCAA Honorable Mention for the second time in her career and also picked up her second USCAA All-Academic Team honor as well.

 

For the season she hit .389 with 29 hits, five doubles and eight RBI

 

Kromer was a strong force on the mound as well, going 6-3 with one save and a 2.98 ERA (fifth in PSUAC) striking out 54 (fourth, PSUAC) for an average strikeouts per game of 5.76 (seventh in PSUAC). She walked just 15 in 65.2 innings of work.

 

Guthrie hit .370 with three homers (ninth in PSUAC) and 14 RBI. She hit 10 doubles (sixth in PSUAC) and posted a .605 slugging percentage (13th in PSUAC).

 

In all, the Lady Roaring Lions posted a 13-13 record, their first non-losing season in seven years, earned the number three seed in the conference tournament and were a bubble team for a berth in the 2014 USCAA National Softball Championship tournament.
