A Game of Firsts for Softball: First Win, First Homerun

New Kensington, PA – After some unfortunate losses, the Lady Roaring Lions pulled out their first win of the season against Penn State New Kensington. Coming up short in the first game of the double-header, 4-14, Penn State Fayette retaliated in the second game overcoming New Kensington 8-3.

Shelby Dziak started off the day on the mound, pitching the whole game and striking out two players. Also helping out offensively, Dziak batted in two runners with her double in the second inning when the Lady Roaring Lions nearly caught up with New Kensington in the beginning of the game, scoring three of their four runs. Finishing off the first game, Fayette softball had accumulated five hits.

With her first pitching start plus first win under her belt, Felicia Thompson might be seeing some more time on the mound in the remainder of the season. Taking the game to seven innings and only giving up six hits, Thompson's defense came up huge to help her snag a win. Compared to New Kensington, Fayette pitching only allowed three walks to their six. Fayette softball also gave up the least amount of runs for them so far this season.

It was a game of many firsts for Fayette. Alyssa Strausser was the big hitter of the game with the Lady Roaring Lions' first homerun of the season at the end of the game, while scoring another run earlier on in the fifth inning. Helping out with her three RBI's, Kelsey Rudzienski brought in two more hits. Teri Lewis and Kelsie Seman contributed two more runs apiece with help from Seman's double.

With an exciting win for Fayette recorded, the ladies are ready to keep their win streak rolling as they travel to the opposite end of PA for back-to-back double-headers starting with Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday, April 23rd, at 2pm and 4pm and the same times at Penn State Brandywine on Sunday.
