Fayette Softball Splits with Beaver

Monaca, PA – The Penn State Fayette Women's Softball team traveled to Penn State Beaver to play a doubleheader on Saturday April 8th. With Fayette improving physically and mentally for each game, facing the number one team on the west side would be a challenge.

In the first game, both teams started off solid in the first inning. Sophomore Hannah Kline was the first for Fayette to get a hit for the day which resulted in a double.  Freshman Aubree Yates followed Kline with another double which sent Kline into home scoring. Both teams scored one run each to give them a tie going into the second inning. Penn State Beaver was able to find another run in the bottom of the second. An RBI from sophomore Dina Cable kept their 2-1 lead for the remainder of the game.

"We knew we only scored 1 run and we had to hit better. We had very little defensive errors so hitting the ball was crucial." Hannah Kline states her thoughts going into the second game. Which she and the rest of the Lady Roaring Lions stepped up to the plate and made more things happen.

For the final game of the day, Fayette was able to shut out Beaver and giving them their first conference loss of the season, 4-0. The Lady Roaring Lions gave an exhilarating performance throughout the whole game. Kline had another strong start hitting a single to open the offensive end. Senior Miranda Nichols hit an RBI advancing Yates to 3rd and sending Kline home to score. Beaver got caught throwing the ball around allowing Yates to steal home and give them a 2-0 lead off of 3 hits. Rolling into the second inning Fayette stayed on fire with more help from Hannah Kline. Kline hit a single RBI that let freshman Haley Rugg score with a 3-0 lead. Another repeat for Hannah Kline as she hit her second RBI of the day sending Rugg home in the top of the 6th.  Beaver struggled trying to answer back to Fayette's great pitching by freshman Tiffany Markovitch leaving them scoreless 4-0.

The Penn State Fayette softball has been struggling to build a decent team since 2014 when they lost to Penn State Brandywine in the playoffs, 6-5. "This was the last time we made it to playoffs, WE are all itching for a playoff spot in the PSUAC and we won't stop until we get there. We're prepared for any competition we face these next couple of weeks." states Senior Miranda Nichols whom is the only player on the team that has that playoff experience.

After splitting the doubleheader with Penn State Beaver, Fayette is now 7-13 overall this year while they are also 3-3 in the conference play. The team will play next when they host Penn State DuBois on Thursday April 13th. First game is set to start at 6 pm.
