Gesso takes 1st in Javelin; Fayette builds on a successful inaugural season

The Penn State Fayette inaugural track team reached new heights on Wednesday at the PAC Quad South Invitational.  The meet saw many personal and school records fall along with the programs first overall winner in an event. 

Ryan Gesso(So., Uniontown) won the javelin with a throw of 52.18 meters.  That throw nearly broke the meet record and beat the second place thrower by over 20 feet.  George Lin(So., Uniontown) threw 39.37 meters good for 7th place and points.

In the high Jump, Ben Wilson's(Fr,. Uniontown) jump mirrored the previous meet.  His jump of 1.85 meters was good enough to earn him second place in the meet.

The team continued to perform well on the track.  Devin Pisarski(Fr., Connellsville) picked up placing in the 1500m and the 800m.  He finished fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:22, and followed that with a fifth place in the 800 in 2:03.  Anthony Berdine(Fr. Washington, Pa) ran 5:45 and 2:41 in those respective events.  Michael Elliot set a personal record in the 400 meter hurdles.  His time of 1:01 was good enough for fourth place.

In the sprints, Coron Mains(So., Uniontown) ran the 100m and 200m for his first meet of the season.  He finished with a 12.1 in the 100m and 24.3 in the 200m.  Also, the team put together its first relay team ever, running the 4x400 relay.  The team of Wilson, Mains, Elliot and Pisarki finished 7th with a time of 3:40.1.

On the women's side, Breyanna Gursknis(Fr., Apopka, Fl) and Kirsten Webb(Jr., California, Pa) performed in the 1500m and the 800m.  In the 1500m, Gursknis finished in 6:26, good enough for 11th place, while Webb ran 7;06(14th).  The 800 saw Gursknis run 3:02, followed by Webb in 3:22.

"I felt it was an exciting day for us.  With Coron, we were able to add three events in which we could compete.  And our field guys, despite only a few members, were able to pack a punch," said Coach Joe Carei

The team will travel, next week, to SUNY Delhi in New York for USCAA National meet.  It will be held on April 28-29.
