Roaring Lions compete in their second indoor track and field meet
The Penn State Fayette track team competed in their second ever indoor Track and Field meet this past Friday night. Six athletes attended the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational in Cleveland along with 15 other teams from Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Point scorers for the Roaring Lions included Junior Jeremy Welsh(Connellsville) in the Pole Vault, Freshman Nyoah Marteny(Perropolis, Frazier) in the 1000 meters, and Sophomore Devin Pisarski(Connellsville) who competed in the 800 Meters.
Welsh jumped 3.30 meters, far off of his PR, to finish 6th overall. "It certainly didn't go as well as I wanted, but it is always good compete," said Welsh. Welsh also ran the 200 meters.
The 1000 meter proved interesting for Marteny, who had never run the race before. "I was unsure how to run it, especially indoors, being five laps. The last lap was a little challenging." His time of 3:02 was good enough for 7th place overall. He also finished 13th in the men's mile.
Pisarski, also doubled in the 800 and the 200 meter races. His time of 2:06 was good enough to give him 8th place, but far off of his PR of 1:56. "It was fun to come here and race, but we know we have work to do." Pisarski was pleased with his performance in the 200 meters, running 24.28.
Also competing at the meet were Michael Elliott(Clarksville, Beth-Center), who had a personal best jump of 5.64 meters in the long jump and an indoor best 400 meter run of 57.1. PJ Savini(Uniontown, Laurel Highlands) ran the 400 meters in 1:00.7. And Anthony Berdine(Washington, Pa) ran the 1000 meters in 3:20.1.
"It was a good meet to go to. It helped us to gauge our conditioning and allowed us to break up the training." Said Coach Joe Carei.
The track team will open up their spring season at the California University Early Bird Meet on Saturday, March 23.
