Track and Field competes at Alderson Broaddus Invitational

The Roaring Lions track team traveled to Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday for the Battler Invitational. Competing against all NCAA DII squads, they held their own.

 

The team opened the meet up finishing second in the 4x400 meter relay. Sophomore Ben Wilson, Sophomore Michael Elliott, Freshman Nyoah Marteny and Freshman PJ Savini ran 4:49.99.

 

Wilson also had a medalist performance in the High Jump. His jump of 1.84 was good enough for third place. Elliott continued his day by setting a new school record in the long jump. His leap of 5.98 meters was good for 8th place. He also finished sixth place in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.6.

 

Marteny and Freshman Hayden Rhodes both ran the 800. Marteny finished in 12th place with a time of 2:11, while Rhodes crossed the line in 2:35. Rhodes and Savini ran the 400, running: 57.4 and 1:00.3 respectively. Savini also ran the 200 meters. He finished in: 26.2.

 

The men throws had a good day, with Freshman Craig Weaver making the finals in the Discus with a throw of 29.96 meters and finishing seventh. Freshman Tyler Zelenick finished fifth with a PR throw of 35.98 meters.

 

On the women's side Freshman Machaela Hall ran the 400 meter in a record time of 1:11.3 to finish sixth. She also ran the 800 meters in 3:10, good for 13th. Freshman Sara Maniecki finished third in the javelin with a toss of 24.44.

 

The team will travel to the USCAA National Invite at SUNY Delhi on Saturday, April 28th.
