Wilson and Welsh Place Second In USCAA National Invitational

Bouyed by two second place finishes, the Roaring Lions Men's Track and Field team finished fourth this weekend. The team travelled to SUNY Delhi in New York to compete in the USCAA National Track Invite.

Junior Jeremy Welsh, literally got things jump started in the Pole Vault. His jump of 3.60 meters was good enough for second place overall. Freshman PJ Savini also got points for Penn State Fayette by finishing 6th place.

Not to be outdone, Sophomore Ben Wilson also fared well in the jumps.  His leap of 1.88 was his college personal record and also got him second place honors. Sophomore Mike Elliott also competed in the Long and Triple Jumps. In the Long, his leap of 5.22 meters garnered him a 6th place finish.  While in the triple, he finished 4th with a jump of …

The throws team had a great day, with all throwers placing in their events.  Freshman Craig Weaver was a medalist in the discus. His toss of 32.19 meters garnered him a third place finish. Freshman Sara Maniecki threw a college PR of 15.86 meters  to finish eighth place. 

In the Javelin, Maniecki's also managed to finish in the top three. Her throw of 24.43 meters was good enough for third place. Freshman Tyler Zeleneck finished fourth on the Men's side, throwing 34.84 meters.

Weaver and Zeleneck also finished fourth and sixth in the shot put, also. Weaver heaved the shot 10.96 meters, while Zeleneck followed with 9.54. 

On the track, Freshman Hayden Rhodes led a 4-5-6 finish in the 400 meters. His personal best 56.3 won his heat, while Wilson and Savini ran 57.3 and 57.35 respectively. Freshman Machaela Hall also won her heat for the Women's 400.  Her time of 1:10 was good enough for 8th place.

In the 800, Freshman Nyoah Marteny led the way finishing 9th. Rhodes was not far behind in 11th place. For the women, Hall finished in 10th place with a time of 3:01.

Elliot continued his busy day with a medalist performance in the 400 hurdles. His time of 1:03.7 earned him a third place finish.

The men's 4x400 team of Wilson, Rhodes, Elliott and Savini finished 8th overall. The Roaring Lions finished with a score of 70 points. The women's team finished 7th with 8 points. SUNY Delhi was the overall winner of the USCAA National Invite for both the men's and women's.
