T&F competes in the Cal U Early Bird

California, PA - The Penn State Fayette Track & Field team took part in the Early Bird Invitational at California University of Pennsylvania's Roadman Park.

"There were mainly Division II and Division III (teams)," head coach Joe Carei said. "There were 19 teams in all for the event with it being cold and windy."

Craig Weaver (Newfreeport, PA/West Greene HS) threw 37.52 meters in the Discus and 10.61 meters in the shot put.

Josh Crayton (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) threw 36.18 meters to top the Javelin for Fayette.

In the long jump, Michael Elliot (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) jumped 5.25 meters while Noah House (Southmoreland HS) jumped 5.19 meters.

On the track, Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) won his heat of the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:27.

Minda also ran the 800-meter in 2:09.3 while Hayden Rhodes (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) won his heat of the 200-meter in 0:25.4 and ran a 1:00.5 in the 400-meter.

Elliot also competed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.8 while Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) ran the 5000-meter in 18:30.

Anei Toaisi (Suva, Fiji, Uniontown HS) was the lone women's representative and she threw 22.55 in the discuss.
