Minda, Kalp set Fayette T&F records

The Penn State Fayette Track and Field team took part in the Bill Lenox Invite Friday at Slippery Rock University and it had a good showing.

"We took it easier as most of our athletes will be competing tomorrow in our Cross-Country meet," head coach Joe Carei said. "It was cold and windy, and we saw snow and sleet.  It was typical track weather."

The event was not scored.

Mitch Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) and Chloe Kalp both set school records as Minda ran the 5,000 meters in 16:55 while Kalp ran a 5:44 in the women's 1,500-meters, one second ahead of teammate Josie Pinduro (Hopwood, PA/Geibel Catholic).

Carei was pleased with the record-breaking efforts of Minda and Kalp.

"Mitch and Chloe are taking advantage of their 'quarantine miles' and continue to break school records," he said.

In the men's 1,500,   Alexander Gostev ran a 5:01 and Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) ran a 5:25.  In the men's 800, Steve Painter (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS) ran a 2:19 and Steve Painter (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS) ran a 2:30 while Casey Falcon (Beth-Center, PA/Beth-Center HS) won her heat in 3:04.  In the men's 200, Savini ran a 27.44 and Painter ran a 28.67.

Tyler Zelenick (Centerville, PA/Beth-Center HS) had a good day as well as he recorded an 8.93-meter throw in the Shot Put, threw the Hammer for a distance of 26.76 and threw the javelin 33.89.

The Track and Field team returns to action Saturday at West Virginia University.
