NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Lady Roaring Lions valiant bid to come back from an 18-point deficit with under five minutes to play fell just short as Fayette fell to Apprentice School, Newport News, Va., in the opening night of the Great Ships Classic.
Jill Guthrie (Vanderbilt, Pa.) and Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) each scored 16 points to lead the Lady Roaring Lions. Shannon Flament (Charleroi, Pa.) added 10 off of the bench for Fayette (0-1).
Novak pulled down a team high eight rebounds, while Guthrie and Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) each had seven. Ruble added seven assists.
Fayette will face Southern Virginia University, Buena Vista, Va., Saturday at 1 p.m. to conclude the classic.
