Wontroba joins the 1,000 point club

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Junior Caitlin Wontroba became the third Penn State Fayette women's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points in a Penn State Fayette uniform. She is the first women's player to accomplish the feat as a junior.

In Fayette's Jan. 14 game against Point Park, the Laurel Highlands graduate reached the mark by hitting a three- point jump shot from the top of the key to surpass the milestone. She finished the game with 23 points to lead the Lady Roaring Lions in scoring.

To reach the milestone with a three-point shot was quite appropriate for a player who ranks 13th in the nation in three-point shooting percentage (37.5). She is sixth in the nation in assists per game (5.8). On the season, she is averaging 16.5 points per game (also her career average) and has notched two double-doubles.

She was named Second Team United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American honors in both 2012 and 2013 and during that span has been a two-time USCAA Academic All-American.

"Caitlin is a key player for us," Fayette Coach Kurt Mattern  said. "She has really grown as a player and has played a key role in our success from the first day."
