Lady Roaring Lions Drop Great Ships Challenge Opener

NEWPORT NEWS, Va, -- The Apprentice School used a strong first half to take control of the game and defeat the Lady Roaring Lions 101-50 in the first game of the Great Ships Challenge.

Jackie Halapy (Morgantown, W.Va.) led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds. Kelsey Laurine (Amity, Pa.) and Ally Rudolph (Point Marion, Pa.) each added 11. Laurine pulled down eight rebounds and dished out five assists.

"We just didn't get the start we wanted," Fayette Head Coach Vince Capozzi said. "We allowed them to dictate the pace of play and that made things difficult. Once we settled down, I thought we did a much better job, especially in the second half."

Despite the score, Capozzi did find some positives. "We learned a lot tonight," he said. "That is going to pay off down the line. This is why we play a difficult preseason schedule. We never quit, and I'm very proud of them for that."

Fayette(0-3) faces Bryant and Stratton tomorrow in the second round of the Great Ships Challenge at 1:00 p.m.
