The Lady Lions Split Games Over the Weekend

The Roaring Lions faced two conference rivals over the weekend. Going into these games, the Fayette Women's Basketball team only had one loss in the conference, and they were looking to tip the win column even higher. Fayette lost in the last seconds of the game on Friday, but dominated in their win on Saturday.

Traveling to Hazelton on Friday, the Lady Lions knew they would be facing a fierce competitor. Hazelton only lost two games in the season. But Fayette would not be deterred from giving their all. The game went back and forth all evening long. Fayette's Courtney Haines put 19 first half points, and she ended the game with a total of 26 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists. Her fellow teammates Taylor Smith and Haley Moreland also had an impressive game. Smith put up 25 points and 16 rebounds, and Moreland had 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. The Lions just came up short in the final seconds of the game when Hazelton's McKenzie Prutsman and Haley Nalls converted at the charity stripe.

After suffering that last second defeat on Friday, the Lady Lions weren't dissuaded on Saturday from pulverizing the competition. Fayette beat Schuylkill 80-64. Courtney Haines was once again impactful for the Lions. She had 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. And coming off the bench for Fayette, Kori Whitehead notched 25 points; she led all scorers.

The Roaring Lions are now 3-2 in in the PSUAC and 6-8 overall. They will look for back-to-back wins when they play at Penn State Du Bois on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
