Greater Allegheny Upsets Lady Roaring Lions

McKeesport, Pa – Tuesday night's game (January 24th at 6:00pm) between the Penn State Lady Roaring Lions and Penn State Greater Allegheny's women's basketball team was a twist. The Lady Roaring Lions started off on a good note in the first quarter being up 18-7. Going into the 2nd quarter, Fayette kept the lead and held it until halftime. Beginning of the second half, Greater Allegheny started to find rhythm and had intensity that helped them at the end. Fayette came up short only scoring 14 in the last quarter compared to Greater Allegheny's 29 points giving the final of 64-57. 

For Penn State Greater Allegheny, they had a handful of players that help distributed numbers evenly on the board. Mandi Johnston had a game high of 20 points. Freshmen Justice Mitchell and Ronnie Upsher both had a good night with getting double-doubles each. Mitchell had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Upsher had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Andrea Burroughs also scored 11 points for Greater Allegheny.

Taylor Smith had yet another amazing night for herself. Smith did major damage in the paint grabbing 28 rebounds, with more than half of them being on the defensive end. Smith also led Fayette in scoring with 23 points for her 12th double-double. Junior Lyndsey Huhn, also helped under the basket with 9 rebounds. Senior Courtney Haines also had a high of 17 points.

The Lady Roaring Lions are ready for these next couple days to work and get back on track before this weekend. Fayette will be traveling across Pennsylvania to face Penn State Brandywine on Friday, January 27th, 6:00 pm.
