Lady Roaring Lions Bounce Back
Lemont Furnace, Pa – The Penn State Fayette Lady Roaring Lions hosted a big game last night against Penn State Greater Allegheny. These two teams faced each other last week with an upset by Greater Allegheny (64-57). With the tip-off set for 6:00 pm, the Lady Roaring Lions started the hunt of revenge on a good start.
Penn State Fayette wasted no time jumping on Greater Allegheny to give them a 22-15 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Fayette is known for letting up in the 2nd quarter, especially since the last time these two teams played. Although, last night the Lady Roaring Lions didn't allow any mercy. Penn State Fayette stayed on a consistent run giving them a lead at the half with 43-35.
Keeping the fire, Penn State Fayette couldn't resist but still went even harder to assure them the win. Scoring 26 points in the 3rd sealed the deal giving them a huge lead of 69-49. The Lady Roaring Lions had the biggest lead of the game of 32 in the 4th quarter and pulled out a huge win of 91-65 to clinch a spot in the playoffs for the PSUAC.
The Penn State Lady Roaring Lions had a magnificent night playing together as one team. They had four players all in double digits in scoring. Yet again, Taylor Smith displays her athletic skills no problem getting 27 points and 14 rebounds. Smith was 100% from the foul line. Junior Haley Moreland had a hot night herself as well, 22 points. Senior Courtney Haines stays on her average of 17 PPG with a big defensive night of 6 steals. Finally, coming off the bench is Kori Whitehead scoring 14 points shooting over 60% from the field. Not only did these four athletes contribute to their, but another teammate had a great performance. Lyndsey Huhn quietly made impressive plays that has helped Fayette keep their lead and drive to a win. Huhn had 11 rebounds and led her team with 7 assists.
For Penn State Greater Allegheny, they were led by their guard trio. Mandi Johnston had a high of 22 points getting half of them from the foul line. Behind Johnston is Ronnie Upsher who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Also, freshman Jayla Ellis scored 16 points.
