WBB drop hard-fought PSUAC game to DuBois

"The effort is there but we aren't firing on all cylinders," head coach Scott Hillen said. "We had our chances."

Fayette (2-7, 1-2) started the game with a couple of runs in the first quarter and had leads of five and six points at different times, but DuBois (6-2, 3-1) was able to tie the game at the end of the first quarter, 19-19.

For most of the second quarter, neither team lead by more than three points and it wasn't until DuBois went on an 8-2 run to close the half that the guests took control and a 42-36 lead into halftime.

Taylor Harbaugh (Pittsburgh, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart HS) hit a three-pointer with 9:04 to play in the third quarter to trim the DuBois lead to 42-39, but the guests went on a 14-5 run the rest of the quarter to take a 56-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

The young Fayette squad would not get any closer than eight points in the final frame.

Fayette shot 33.3% (18-54) for the game while DuBois 43.9% (29-66).

For the game, Fayette only made three of 12 three-pointers (25%) and was only 20 for 33 (60.6%) from the line.

"We missed some bunnies and our missed opportunities at the foul line hurt us," Hillen said. "We have to make shots."

Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) played all 40 minutes for Fayette and scored 19 points while Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) also hit double figures with 10 points.

Hope Bridge came off the bench to lead DuBois with 16 points.

Fayette returns to action Friday night when it heads to Allegany College of Maryland.
