WBB comes up short at PSU Brandywine

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team dropped a full two games out of third place in the PSUAC West standings with an 85-76 loss at PSU Brandywine Friday.

Fayette (6-11 overall, 3-5 PSUAC) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, and both teams were able to put the ball in the hoop in the first quarter as the teams finished the frame tied, 21-21.

Brandywine (12-6, 9-1) controlled the second quarter as it outscored Fayette, 19-5, to take a 40-26 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Fayette got back into the game as it had a 26-18 advantage, and Brandywine's lead was down to six points, 58-52, after three quarters.

Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) and Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS) each scored seven points in the quarter to pace Fayette, but it could get no closer that six points in the fourth.

In the fourth, Fayette put up a valiant effort but was outscored, 27-24.

Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) led Fayette with 17 points, Riley added 16 while Costa and Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) each finished with 13.

Costa grabbed 11 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season.

Madison D'Ambrosio (25), Nikki Velez (23), Brandi James (19) and Madison Michael (15) combined for 82 of Brandywine's 85 points.

Fayette shot 37.2% (29-78) for the game and 21.4% (3-14) from beyond the arc.

It is a quick turnaround for Fayette as it heads to PSU Lehigh Valley Saturday for a 5:30 tip.
