Riley continues hot streak in WBB win

Lemont Furnace, PA - The PSU women's basketball team picked up an important PSUAC win Saturday when it downed PSU York, 76-60, behind the continued hot play of freshman Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS).

One game after tying a career-high with 23 points against PSU Mont Alto, Riley set a new personal standard with 26 points as she made nine-of-10 shots during the game.

Fayette controlled most of the first quarter, but a Janelle Kress layup gave York its first, and only, lead of the game with 1:05 to play in the quarter, 19-18.

Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS), who finished with 10 points, hit a three-pointer just before the end of the quarter to give Fayette (8-12, 5-6) a 21-19 lead heading into the second.

A 7-2 run by Fayette gave the hosts a 28-21 lead over York (5-11, 3-8) and a 22-12 advantage in the quarter gave Fayette a 43-31 lead at the half.

A 23-15 advantage in the third gave Fayette a 20-point lead heading into the fourth, 66-46, and it was never threatened down the stretch.

Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) joined Riley and Burnsworth in double figures with 12 points with Burnsworth adding six steals and Shelbie Brown (Camden, OH/Preble Shawnee HS) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Charizma Johnson led York with 18 points.

For the game, Fayette shot 43.3% (26-60) while York shot 31.7% (19-60).

Fayette will look to earn its first three-game winning streak of the season Monday when it heads to PSUAC West division leader PSU Beaver (14-3, 8-1) for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
