WBB falls at Beaver

Monaca, PA - Four players hit double figures Monday for the PSU women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as it fell at PSUAC West division leading PSU Beaver, 68-63.

Fayette (8-13, 5-7) fell behind 10-0 before Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) hit a jumper with 6:31 to go in the first quarter.

Beaver (15-3, 9-1) led 19-8 after the first and extended its lead to 36-22 at the half.

Down by as many as 19 in the third, Fayette cut the lead to five points on two occasions and Beaver held a 49-43 lead heading into the fourth.

In the final frame, Fayette could not get within five points and Beaver pulled out the win.

Bailey Vig (California, PA/California HS) led Fayette with 15 points, Huhn finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) scored 12 points and had five steals and Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) had 11 points.

Beaver's Diamond Thomas took game honors with 24 points.

Fayette shot 39.7% (25-63) from the field and 37.5% (6-16) from beyond the arc while Beaver shot 38.6% (27-70) and 33% (5-15) from downtown.

The team returns to action Wednesday when it heads to PSU New Kensington for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
