WBB downs GA, rematch set for PSUAC quarters

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team geared up for the PSUAC tournament with a thrilling 73-67 come-from-behind win over Greater Allegheny Friday night.

And because of the win, the teams play in the PSUAC tournament Tuesday at Greater Allegheny.

Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) led Fayette Friday with 23 points, had six assists and three steals.

The game marked the sixth time this season the freshman has gone over 20 points.

Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) scored 14 points, Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) added 13 points and Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) scored 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS) added 11 rebounds.

Fayette (12-13, 8-7 PSUAC) led 13-9 after one quarter, but Greater Allegheny (15-10, 11-4) used a 22-16 advantage in the second to take a 31-29 lead into halftime.

A 20-19 advantage in the third trimmed Fayette's deficit to 50-49 heading into the fourth.

Huhn tied the game at 54-54 with 6:50 to play when she made a layup, and Riley gave Fayette the lead for good with 4:35 to play with a layup of her own.

Fayette shot 44.6% (25-56) for the game while limiting Greater Allegheny to 32.9% (26-79).

A key for Fayette, considering it outside shot wasn't following as it only hit one out of 13 attempts from beyond the arc (7.7%), was that it outscored Greater Allegheny in the paint, 42-30.

There were 14 lea changes in the contest and 10 ties.

With the teams plying for the second time in five days on Tuesday, it will also be the third time this season they will play.

The teams both protected home court during the regular season with both contests being played relatively even.

Greater Allegheny won the first game on January 9 when it won 73-67 and earned home court for the game as it finished second in the West division and Fayette is ranked third.

Tuesday's game is at 6:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the PSUAC semifinals on Friday.
