Riley, Burnsworth nab PSUAC West WBB honors

Lemont Furnace, PA -After getting hurt in Penn State Fayette women's basketball team's opening game of the season, Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) missed the next five games.

The team lost four of those games and once Riley returned to the lineup, it took her a little time to get herself back into game shape.

However, once she did, Reilly stepped up her game and scored over 20 points seven times the rest of the season and became an integral part of the team's run to the PSUAC semifinals.

Others took notice, and on Friday, Reilly was named the PSUAC West Rookie of the Year and was also a PSUAC West 1st team selection.

"Being selected as West Rookie of the Year was a surprise but a great honor considering the competition," Reilly said. "Being selected for the First Team was also a surprise and honor and I am glad that I helped the team get to the (PSUAC) semifinals and the (USCAA) national tournament."

Riley is averaging 14.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

She is shooting 47.2% from the floor, 38.2% from beyond the arc and 75.8% from the free throw line.

Fellow freshman Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) earned Honorable Mention honors.

Burnsworth is averaging 13.3, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 30.6% from the field, 22.9% from downtown and 59.7% from the line.

Fayette coach Scott Hillen commented on both players being honored.

"They have both been a big part of us turning things around in the right direction this year," he said. "They are part of a very good recruiting class that has complimented each other well.

"I feel that Riley and Burnsworth getting recognized is a testament to the team as a group and we have high expectations for the future (of the program)."
