WBB drops consolation game at USCAAs

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team saw its season end Tuesday in the consolation round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championship tournament when it lost to PSU Beaver, 90-68.

Fayette (14-16) jumped out early and raced to a 15-7 lead halfway through the first quarter, but Beaver (23-6) closed the frame on a 15-4 run to take a 22-19 lead into the second.

Beaver was able to extend its lead to 47-41 at the half thanks to a 25-22 advantage in the second, and Fayette had a striking chance after three as it trailed 69-59 heading into the fourth.

It was in the closing quarter that Beaver was able to pull away as Fayette was fatigued form only playing seven players with all five starters logging at least 31 minutes.

In the fourth, Beaver outscored Fayette 21-9.

Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) looked best for Fayette as she recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) and Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) each scored 15 points with Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS) also hitting double figures with 10 points.

Riley added six rebounds, six assists and three steals while Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) had five assists.

Cheyenne Lopez paced five Beaver players in double figures with 23 points while adding seven assists and seven steals.

Fayette shot 43.1% (25-58) for the game while Beaver shot 52.2% (35-67).
