WBB wins seventh straight, Riley and Poling lead the way
Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team extended their longest winning streak in over six years to seven games with a win over Penn State Greater Allegheny Tuesday night, 76-59.
"We won despite playing very lackadaisical today," said head coach Scott Hillen. "Kaitlyn (Riley) and Brooke (Poling) carried us today."
Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS) and Poling (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier HS) both recorded double-doubles as the former had game-highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds while the latter tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds. Riley's double-double was her 10th of the season while Poling's was her fifth.
Taylor McCormick (Laurel, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
After holding a two-point lead after one quarter in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) contest, Fayette (16-6 overall, 11-4 PSUAC) outscored Greater Allegheny (5-14, 4-10) in the second, 20-17, to take a 37-22 lead into halftime. The teams played relatively even in the second half.
Fayette shot 34% (25-74) for the game while Greater Allegheny shot 33% (23-70). The two biggest differences in the game was points in the paint as Fayette held the advantage, 36-18, and at the foul line. Fayette made 23 of 30 attempts (77%) while Greater Allegheny only attempted 13 free throws, making eight (62%).
"We won the game at the foul line," Hillen said.
The last time Fayette won seven straight games was from November 23, 2013 through January 11, 2014.
Fayette is off until Tuesday when it heads to Penn State Mont Alto (8-12, 5-10) to close out it its road schedule for the year. Tipoff is set for 6 PM.
