Lady Roaring Lions open conference play with win

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Penn State Fayette's women's volleyball team opened defense of their 2012 PSUAC Championship with a 3-0 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny. Fayette has not lost a set in conference play since September 2011.

Freshman Megan Manack (Frazier) had seven kills as did Janelle Cooper (Laurel Highlands) to lead the Fayette attack.  Samantha Helmantoler (Ringgold) added five as the Lady Roaring Lions (1-2) won by scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-9.

Emily Konter (Brownsville) had 15 assists, while Victoria Helmantoler (Ringgold) added eight. Konter scored 11 service aces while Emily Caldwell (Belle Vernon) chipped in with five.

Konter and Cooper led the defense with four digs each and Manak added three blocks.

Fayette will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 when it travels to Bethany for a tri-match with the host school and Chatham University.
