Fayette sweeps in Sunday's volleyball matches

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Penn State Fayette picked up two key conference wins on Sunday in defeating Penn State York and Penn State Mont Alto by identical 3-0 scores.

In the opener, Fayette dropped York by scores of 25-11, 25-1 and 25-9.

The highlight was the second game where Emily Konter served 24 consecutive points, including 10 service aces. Konter finished with 17 aces on the day, to go along with 16 assists, seven kills and three digs. Katlyn Salisbury (Yough) added seven kills, while Megan Manack (Frazier) added six and Samantha Helmantoler (Ringgold) five.

Christine Bruno (Elizabeth Forward) had four dig for Fayette. Lauren Himes led York with four kills and Megan Herr had four digs.

Penn State Mont Alto kept the Lady Roaring Lions on their toes as Fayette won by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-21.

Manack let the offense with 15 kills with Samantha Helmantoler added 11, while sister Tori had four, as did Francesca Legros (Brownsville). Konter accounted for 27 assists, had three kills, and two digs.

Caitlyn Williams led the defense with 14 digs, while Tori Helmantholer had seven and Samanth Helmantoler had 6. Emily Caldwell (Belle Vernon) added five. Salisbury added three service aces.

Sarah Bortner led Mont Alto with 12 kills.

Fayette improves to 10-6 overall and 6-0 in PSUAC. The Lady Roaring Lions will host Carlow College in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
