Senior surpasses 2,078 career assists

New Kensington, Pa. – Emily Konter (Brownsville, Pa.) put her name into the record books, when the senior notched the 2,078th career assist as the Lady Roaring Lions defeated Penn State New Kensington 3-0 on Sept. 24.

 

Konter broke the record held by Katie Sleasman (Connellsville), who recorded 2,077 assists in four years at Fayette. She needed 18 assists and left no doubt in notching 30 assists in the match.

 

Fayette won by scores of 26-16, 25-11 and 25-19.

 

Senior Samantha Helmantoler (Monongahela, Pa.) led the Lady Roaring lions with 12 kills. Emily Caldwell (Belle Vernon, Pa.) added eight and Courtney Haines (McClellandtown, Pa.) six.

 

Caytlin Williams (Dunbar, Pa.) had four assists to go with her team-high 16 digs. Konter was next with 15 and Caldwell with nine.

 

The win improved the Fayette's record to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in PSUAC play and will travel to Penn State Hazleton to face the host school along with Penn State Lehigh Valley on Sept. 27. Fayette wraps up its eastern swing with a trip to Scranton to face Wilkes Barre and Scranton.

 

The Lady Lions will celebrate Senior Night on Wednesday, October 8 against Penn State New Kensington. First serve is at 7 p.m.
