Lady Roaring Lions defeat PSU New Kensingon 3-0

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Penn State Fayette's women's volleyball team took another step toward its seventh-consecutive Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference title with a convincing 3-0 win over Penn State New Kensington in the quarterfinals of the PSUAC tournament on Wednesday evening at Fayette.

 

The Lady Roaring Lions (19-4, 15-0) won by scores of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-7.

 

Emily Konter (Brownsville), Fayette's all-time career assist leader, added to her record total by dishing out 32 as Fayette hit a blistering .440, .571 and .367 in the three sets. Konter also added six service aces. 

 

Kelsey Tyler (California) and Samantha Helmantoler (Ringgold) led the offense each notching 11 kills. Sam's sister, Victoria (Ringgold) added six and Emily Caldwell (Belle Vernon) five.

 

Caldwell added three aces and 16 digs, while Caitlin Williams (Connellsville) had 13 digs.

 

Maria Daugherty paced New Kensington with six kills and Morgan Ceschini dished out 10 assists.

 

The Lady Roaring Lions won their 64th consecutive PSUAC home game dating back to 2007 and will get a chance to add to that total when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 in the PSUAC semifinals. At stake will be a trip to the championship game and a meeting with the PSU Brandywine/PSU Mont Alto winner.
