Nittany Lions Volleyball goes 2-0 for the weekend in a tri-match series

Lemont Furnace, Pa - Penn State Fayette volleyball coach Sam Swetz has seen glimpses so far this season of her team putting things together.

Saturday, things may have clicked at the Nittany Lions (4-5, 1-0) won a pair of matches, including its PSUAC conference and division opener.

"I am extremely proud of the girls for stepping it up and bringing my vision for this season to life," Swetz said. "It feels good to have our first conference game in (the books)."

The team went to Penn State DuBois and defeated the hosts in its conference and division opener, three sets to one (25-22, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15).

Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) set the tone in the opener as she had 14 kills, 10 blocks and a pair of aces against DuBois.

Madison Knight (Clarksburg, WV/Robert C. Boyd HS) had five blocks, Chanel Porter (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS) had 25 digs, Anei Toaisi (Uniontown, Uniontown HS) had 20 digs and Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) had 26 assists.

The team also swept Kent St. Tuscarawas, three sets to none (25-14, 25-16, 25-12).

Toaisi had 20 digs, Tale (12) and Knight (eight) combined for 20 kills with Knight also having two blocks, Kiki Martin (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) had three aces and two blocks, and Barnish had 29 assists.

The team looks to build on its two-match win streak and even its record Monday when it hosts Bethany College.
