Largest crowd in Fayette Volleyball history watches a sweep of PSUGA

Lemont Furnace, PA - The largest crowd in history for a home Penn State Fayette volleyball match watched the team sweep Penn State Greater Allegheny Wednesday night.

"It was such an exciting game with the stands full," said head coach Sam Swetz while having a hard time keeping her adrenaline in check. "With the help of our fans, we continued our streak of never losing a set to Greater Allegheny."

Fayette (17-7 overall, 8-1 PSUAC), who is ranked fourth in the country, won the three sets, 25-20, 25-22, and 26-24.

Chanel Porter (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS), playing in her last regular season home game as a 2+2 student-athlete, had 26 digs.

"We couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere for our last home game honoring Chanel and bringing pediatric cancer awareness," Swetz said. "Chanel will be missed and is the best libero (position) I've ever had on any team that I have coached.

"She is very good at communicating, will hustle after any ball and I am glad that we found her and she decided to become part of our team."

Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) had two aces and 30 assists while Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) had 13 kills and three blocks.

Fayette concludes its regular season Saturday at Penn State Beaver before gearing up for the PSUAC first round Wednesday.

The team, which has gone 13-1 over its last 14 games and has won 40 out of 44 sets during the run, will host a playoff match.
