Barnish named PSUAC Setter of the Week

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette volleyball has won 14 out of its last 15 games and is the top seed in the upcoming PSUAC tournament.

Not only is the team having a successful run as a squad, but freshman Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) has been honored as the conference Setter of the Week.

The accolade was announced on October 17.

"It means a lot to me to be honored with this award because I feel that I have worked really hard as a freshman coming in and setting the whole game," said the Nursing major. "Receiving this award makes me feel that my hard work is recognized and it feels great for people to realize how well I am doing as a setter and with the team."

Head coach Sam Swetz shared her excitement about Barnish being honored.

"Jadyn has performed very well for a freshman starter," Swetz said. "I am excited to see what the future holds with her collegiate career."

Barnish, who is leading the PSUAC in assists per set, had 65 assists in the two games Fayette played as it swept both Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State New Kensington.

Against New Kensington, Barnish also recorded 10 digs.

On the season, Barnish is averaging 7.78 assists per match and her assists improve to 8.60 in conference play.

While Barnish is proud of the honor, she is also excited with how the team has improved.

"The hard work has paid off, the team has gotten better and closer with every game," she said. "Every day we play better than the day before and it is amazing to be playing Fayette volleyball.

"We never stop working for what we want and playing this well means that we are getting closer to our goal."
