PSUF advances to Final Four

Virginia Beach, VA - Thanks to its sweep over Paul Smith's College Friday morning in Pool A play at the USCAA volleyball Division II National Championships, Penn State Fayette (22-8) is going to the Final Four for the first time in program history.

"I am so excited for the team," said head coach Sam Sweitz. "The girls deserve this."

Penn State Fayette opened up Pool Play at the USCAA Division II volleyball championships Thursday, and the team fell to top-seeded University of Cincinnati Clermont, 3-0.

Fayette jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first set and cruised to a 25-11 win.

In the second set, Fayette trailed 11-6 before trying to chip away.  Down 22-17, Fayette closed the set on an 8-1 run to win, 25-23.  During the set, Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) recorded her 1,000th career kill.

"When Siteri got her 1,000th kill during that second set, I knew they'd come alive," Swetz said of the team turning it on.

Fayette left Paul Smith's College no chance in the third set as it jumped out to a 5-0 lead and was never threatened in Fayette's 25-12 win.

Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) had 30 assists for Fayette while Chanel Porter (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS) had 11 digs.

Fayette now plays Johnson & Wales (N.C.) (17-14) in a national semifinal with the winner advancing to the title game Saturday.
