Fayette Women's Volleyball goes 2-1 at USCAA Tipoff

The Penn State Fayette volleyball team opened the 2019 campaign by going 2-1 at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Tip-off on the campus of Penn State Beaver.

"This weekend has gotten me and our staff so excited for the season," said head coach Sam Swetz. "The potential to have a successful season is there."

In their opener Friday night, the Nittany Lions were swept by highly touted University of Cincinnati Claremont (25-17. 26-24 and 25-21).

Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) looked best for Fayette with eight kills and 10 digs while Meghan Goodnight (Wheeling, WV/The Linsly School) had eight digs.

Saturday went much better for the team as it swept University of Maine Fort Kent (25-18, 25-22 and 25-15) and followed up with a win over Penn State Beaver, 3-1 (16-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16).

Against Maine Fort Kent, Tale had 10 kills, eight digs and five blocks, Machaela Hall (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) registered 10 digs and Angel Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) had seven aces.

"I am very excited to see Angel progress into the future as a freshman," Swetz said. "I think that she is going to contribute a lot this year."

Jadyn (Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS)) led the way against PS Beaver with 22 assists, Buwawa had 17 digs, 16 kills and six aces and Tale added 19 digs and 16 kills.

Fayette is off until Wednesday, September 11 when it heads to West Virginia University of Potomac for a 7:00 PM match.
